Still an asshat surfer

Wednesday at work I'm reading along on the Fark articles and I come across this headline:

Comments by Farker can be read via this link.

My immediate thoughts: "huh, only boneheads would do that. I wonder where this happened." I click on the article. This is the article title:

Coast Guard rescues 13 surfers off Texas

Texas, huh? I dated a surfer for two months when I lived in Houston. He surfed every spare moment he had. Wait, let me change "dated" to "saw."Dated implies we went on outings together and I think we went "out" twice. The rest of the time he just wanted to sit around and watch crappy stuff on TV. This ex is named Rico. I also can't forget the fact that he asked me a for a substantial amount of money to help him start his business. That's why there are business loans, Rico.

On with the article (you only need to read the first sentence to get my story):
8/29/2005, 12:02 a.m. ET The Associated Press

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas (AP) — Thirteen surfers had to be pulled to safety Sunday after becoming fatigued in 15-foot seas created by Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Troy Davis said the rip tides were strong and most of the rescues were 400 to 500 yards off Quintana Beach, about 60 miles south of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico.

Sunday evening, nearby Surfside Beach closed the Surfside jetties that are used by many surfers as a launching point.

Hurricane Katrina, a powerful Category 5 storm, was expected to make landfall Monday morning near New Orleans. A hurricane warning was in effect for the north-central Gulf Coast from Morgan City, La., to the Alabama-Florida line.

I immediately flip out a little bit because Surfside Beach is the main place Rico surfed. Although I never really liked Rico and think he lacks many human qualities that are important to me (in any person, not just a guy), I certainly didn't want him to be hurt or dead.

So, I send him this email:

After that message there was a link to the article on both Fark and on the original website. Here's his reply:

It was a lot of people we know. In fact I surfed
right by the coast guard ship. It was actually really
funny. I never did realize how far out to sea we had
drifted. I did not get picked up by the coast guard or
arrested for jumping off the jetty.

rico

Funny, huh? I speechless.

Not only does this guy (in the past photos you have shown me) look inherently frightening, but he's also a moron. NEXT.
